The Starving Artist Award, presented by the Warrior Art Brigade, recognizes a veteran artist whose work has significantly impacted their community. Whether through painting, music, sculpture, photography, writing, or other artistic mediums, the recipient exemplifies how art can heal, inspire, and create change.

This award celebrates the resilience, dedication, and creative vision of veteran artists who continue to serve their communities beyond the uniform, using their art as a force for transformation.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. military veteran

  • Must demonstrate outstanding artistic talent

  • Must have used their art for community engagement, healing, or advocacy

Nomination Criteria:

The Starving Artist Award should recognize a veteran who:

  1. Creates impactful art that tells a story, inspires, or raises awareness.

  2. Engages with their community through mentorship, workshops, or public service.

  3. Demonstrates artistic growth and perseverance despite challenges.

  4. Uses art as a means of healing and advocacy for veterans or other causes.

Submission Requirements:

  • Nominee’s Name & Contact Information

  • Military Service Details (Branch, Years of Service, etc.)

  • Art Portfolio (Images/Videos/Links to Work)

  • Community Impact Statement (How their art has affected their community)

  • Letters of Support (Optional but Recommended)

Selection Process:

  1. Initial Review – A panel of judges (artists, veterans, and community leaders) evaluates applications.

  2. Finalists Announcement – Shortlisted candidates are featured in promotions.

  3. Public Engagement (Optional) – The community can vote or provide input.

  4. Winner Selection & Award Ceremony – The award is presented, with a possible grant or exhibit opportunity.
